Picking The Right Bike!

We have seen a change in transportation recently. While the majority of people in the western world seemed most interested in travelling via automobile, in the last couple of decades many people have been choosing the bicycle as their primary mode of transportation. This trend can be attributed to the idea of keeping things 'green' in a bid to take care of our planet. It doesn't hurt that gas is increasing in price either! Whatever the reason, there are more cyclists on the road than ever. Have you been thinking about getting a bicycle? Here are some hints to help you choose the cycling bicycle that is right for you.

Fashion really does affect the choice you make when purchasing a new bike. The color we like best, or the style we like least, all influence our choices. These preferences must be listened to when getting your next bike. Unless you are just buying a bike for the sheer look of it, style and fashion options shouldn't be the ultimate priorities. Evaluating your choices according to safety and comfort will be the best first step. But once you have found the safest and most comfortable bicycles, there is no reason you shouldn’t narrow down your choice further by how the bike appeals to you visually. What kind of handlebars you want on your bike is also a big choice. There are many different types to choose from, each better for specific roles. Those handlebars which extend horizontally out offer great control for maneuvering. These kinds of handlebars are also great in distributing your weight evenly. For racing bikes you will want completely different handlebars, these handlebars will curve and allow you to ride your bike in a leaning position, this is to cut down on wind resistance and allow you to cycle faster. For those of us who only plan to use our bikes sporadically, you may wish to go with a handlebar style that is comfortable and yet easily stored away.

You should already have your safety gear bought and ready to go. Bicycles of then and bicycles of now are two completely different things. Not only do they look a lot better than they used to, they are also built better to provide greater protection. You should never go for a ride without putting on your helmet first. Sometimes that fraction review of padding really can save your life!

It wouldn't hurt to also get some elbow and knee pads, and some wrist and ankle guards if you are going to take your bike off-road. Another good idea is to buy some pants clips if you are going to be riding your bike as your primary form of transportation. Pants clips are designed to hold your pants in place so they don't get caught up in the chain or the gears of the bike.

There are lots of things to think about when you are trying to find the right cycling bicycle to fit your needs. It can be a bit tedious and frustrating to try and figure out what all you need when you are buying a bicycle. If you will not jump into things and try and educate yourself on what you need, you will be pleased with the results.
